Mrs. Beyda Mundino Hussien
Central Ethiopian Region Women and Children Affairs Bureau Head
One of the issues that are taken as a guarantee to ensure progress in a country's development journey is the active participation of all citizens in the development process. Women and children, who make up about ¾ of the population, are vulnerable to extreme poverty as they do not have the opportunity to actively participate in the development process. The actual situation of our country and our region is no different from this, which in addition to aggravating poverty, has caused our journey of democracy and good governance to not accelerate. Therefore, the Women and Children Bureau of the Central Ethiopia Region aims to overcome the distorted society's view which is the source of the problem, to ensure the equal participation and benefit of women in the economic, social and political development fields of the region, as well as to speed up the universal education of children so that they can become producers and citizens in the future.A lot of work has been done,In terms of increasing women's social participation and benefits, women by establishing and organizing development union organizations and women's association federations and women's leagues, as well as coordinating with stakeholders, governmental and non-governmental bodies, by raising the public's awareness, in order to protect the rights and interests of many women, to realize their constitutional and human rights and interests, and to save women and children from harmful customary practices. Also, in terms of increasing the economic capacity of women, it was possible for women to save in various financial institutions through the various awareness activities created for women. The role of women in leadership and decision-making has not reached the desired level, so it should be worked on in the future.
In terms of ensuring the institutionalization of gender inclusion, it is planned to enable all sectors to institutionalize gender issues, but in most sectors, they plan gender issues in their annual plans, but there is a big deficiency in terms of evaluating the implementation and making adjustments. In order to ensure the safety of children's rights, it has been possible to provide awareness to the public on various topics (violence of women and children, harmful traditional practices, the importance of fair hearing, children's education and health) based on international and continental agreements as well as laws, decrees, regulations and guidelines issued in our country.
In general, we are working to bring about a general social change by coordinating governmental and non-governmental bodies to ensure the equal participation and benefit of women and the rights and safety of children.
With Regards!
Mrs. Zebiba Mohammednasir Abdlhakim
